Brighton Eats: PATTY & BUN

So just last week Brighton saw the highly anticipated opening of Patty & Bun.

Located just up from Ship St, a stones throw away from Brighton beach Patty & Bun is a prime seaside takeaway.

I visited on their official opening night after hearing all too many good things (and delicious photos) from the soft launch. The major perk of visiting during the opening week was the ridiculous deal of £5.00 burgers – all burgers, all week. Much like most of these burger joints it’s walk ins only – so get down there early if you want to be guaranteed a table at a reasonable time. I personally (as did many others!) had a 45 minute wait for a table, however after a swift drink at the conveniently located Seven Stars Pub opposite – I got the call!

‘ARI GOLD’ Cheeseburger & Chips with Roast Chicken Mayo & Chicken Skin Salt

Straight onto the food – all burgers are served medium rare unless stated. The menu is pretty broad and features beef, chicken, lamb, vegan and veggie options. Additionally there’s a great selection of sides including chicken wings, and beef brisket nuggets (which I was desperate to try however they had sold out before I had the chance).

‘ARI GOLD’ Cheeseburger: Beef Patty, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickled Onions, Ketchup, Smokey P&B Mayo, Brioche

During round 1 at Patty & Bun (yes I visited more than once in one week…) I went for the classic ‘ARI GOLD’ burger which includes a beef patty, cheese, tomato, lettuce, pickled onions, ketchup smokey P&B mayo and a brioche bun. I also tried both the chips options, the rosemary salt and the chicken skin salt. I highly rate the chicken skin mayo (pure roast chicken in mayo form), however there wasn’t much difference in flavour of the chips – so if you’re a veggie it’s all good!

‘Hot Chic’ Chicken Burger: Marinated buttermilk fried chicken, Coleslaw, Pickled cucumbers, Lettuce, Smoked garlic aioli, Brioche

On my second visit, which was more of a very tactical work break takeaway I went for the ‘Hot Chic’ Chicken Burger (another menu option which was sold out on my initial visit). Yes, it was yet another excellent chicken burger, the chicken itself was cooked to perfection and the coleslaw added the essential crunch. However, cow most definitely reigns supreme in Patty & Bun and I will be sticking to the deliciously ‘pink & juicy’ beef burgers from now on.

Overall the service was consistently attentive on both visits and I’m sure this will continue even once the initial hype has worn off (if it does!). The takeaway was just as tasty as the sit down meal which is always a bonus. Quite possibly the best beef burger!
